The oceans cover nearly two thirds of our planet, and we know very little about what lives in their depths and remains hidden from Humanity.
13. Elephant Chimera (Callorhinchus milii)
The elephant chimera has the slowest rate of evolution in the world. For about 400 million years, its genome has remained almost unchanged. It lives at a depth of about 590 ft (feet) and can grow up to 5 ft long.
12. Giant squid (Architeuthis dux)
The giant squid can reach a size of more than 42 ft long and weigh up to 275 kilos. This creature lives at a depth of more than 1640 ft.
11. Vampire of the abyss (Vampyroteuthis infernalis)
This squid has a nickname that says it all: if the tip of one of its fins is cut off, this squid will easily be able to regenerate it. It lives mostly in the aphotic zone (without light) between 1970 and 3000 ft deep.
10. Anglerfish (Lophius piscatorius)
Monkfish live to about 3300 ft. deep. There are at least a dozen species of this type. Its length varies from 10 in (inches) to 40 inches, and it can weigh up to 45 kilograms.
9. Blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus)
The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) is one of the abyssal fish species living at 4000ft depth, off the Australian and Tasmanian coasts. It can measure up to 11 in long.
8. Lizard shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus)
Sharks are known to be deep-sea creatures, so this one is no exception. The lizard shark lives at a depth of about 5000 ft in different oceans. Its body can measure up to 70 in.
7. Blackmouth catshark (Galeus melastomus)
These are relatively small sharks that live at about 5000 ft. depth. Despite its constant fishing, this species is not in danger of extinction.
6. Giant bathynome (Bathynomus giganteus)
The Giant Bathynoma is a scavenging carnivore that lives at a depth of nearly 6900ft. It feeds mainly on dead whales and fish.
5. Macropinna microstoma
It is a fish that lives at a depth of about 8200ft. It is known for its large bulging eyes located inside their transparent skull. Its eyes usually look upwards, but sometimes they can change direction if necessary.
4. Black seadevil (Melanocetidae)
The nickname of this monkfish of the abyss corresponds well to its appearance, because it is one of the most unpleasant fish you can meet. It lives in the Black Sea, at 8900ft depth.
3. Dumbo Octopus (Grimpoteuthis)
The Dumbo Octopus lives at a depth of about 10800ft. This cute nickname of course comes from the elephant Dumbo, because the fins of this octopus look like the ears of the famous Disney character. It was discovered in 2014 during an expedition in the Gulf of Mexico by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States (NOAA).
2. Viper fish (Chauliodus)
This 22in long stone fish lives at about 13000ft below sea level. It feeds on anything it can catch and kill with its teeth, as sharp as needles.

the sea cooper, this parasitic amphipod lives in the depths of almost every ocean on the planet, except the Arctic. It can live up to a depth of 16000ft.
