Which jet ski to choose?

A jet ski differs from another one according to the purpose of use, there are high speed jet skis if you are looking for thrills, jet skis with several seats, etc…. If you know what you are looking for, choosing the right jet ski will be a piece of cake for you.

The brand of the jet ski

Several brands compete on the market to promote their products, providing quality and better performing models year after year. A few brands have stood out from the others, here are the four most reliable brands that guarantee quality and safety:

– Kawasaki

– Seadoo

– Yamaha

– Honda

Types of jet skis

There are two types of scooters depending on the presence or absence of the seat:

– Jet-ski with saddle,

– jet-ski with arms.

Saddle jet-skis do not have a seat to sit on, the ride on the water is done standing in the banquet, this type of jet-ski is loved by sportsmen and stuntmen, as well as freestylers.

The second type is a model more suitable for normal people, who just want to enjoy the summer, in fact, this jet-ski is more balanced because it is more stable on the water than the first one and offers better safety, and can carry up to four people.

New or used

If your budget is limited, you will probably turn to a second-hand model.

Then be careful, like all motorized vehicles, cars for example, we advise you to check carefully how the maintenance was carried out and its regularity, especially wintering, which remains an essential annual operation to ensure the longevity of the engine by protecting it from corrosion. If you find that the maintenance leaves something to be desired, you are taking a risk regarding the life of your machine.

Also check the exterior appearance, hull, scratches and any traces of rust due to improper rinsing after a sea trip, this will give you a good indication of the care taken by the previous owner of the jet ski.

In fresh water or at sea

For freshwater cruising, we will opt more for a light and handy jet ski. The 2 seats allow you to feel strong sensations even on a static body of water.

At sea, stability will be favoured by choosing a heavier personal watercraft that will be able to cope with rough seas and waves.

The engine

You will have the choice between 2 types of engines: 2-stroke or 4-stroke.

In terms of reliability, longevity and consumption, we can only advise you to start with a 4-stroke.

The number of places

If you’re the only one practicing, you may be wondering about 2 or 3 places. But from 2 persons, it is preferable to leave on a 3-seater jet ski.

The more seats you have, the more stable your jet ski will be. This is why at sea we advise you to choose a 3-seater jet ski.

In fresh water, more lightness can be appreciated and therefore to opt for a 2-seater.

And if you think about the insurance for the jet-ski?

There are a few questions that need to be answered, especially about parking and insurance. Impossible to take your scooter out of the sea if you don’t have such a contract. You therefore need a quality offer dedicated to jet-ski and you will then be able to use your machine as you wish.

You have two or even three levels depending on the insurance you have chosen for your jet-ski, i.e. third party insurance which remains very limited and all risk.
